Yamaha Apex snowmobile drivers Corey Davidson and Joel Diamond racked up five wins over the Feb. 18-19 weekend at races in Minnesota and Michigan. Davidson started things off by winning every class he entered at the USCC Ada 100 cross-country event in Ada, Minn. on Saturday. He first won the Pro Open class on his modified Apex, then followed up with a win in the Vet 35+ class on a stock Apex as Tim Sargent captured third on another Apex. When the Ada 100 main event started, Diamond ran a fast first lap, made a quick fuel stop and reached the finish some two minutes ahead of the next sled. “I’m super happy to be able to sweep all three classes in my first year on the Yamaha,” he enthused. “It can’t get any better than that.” On the half-mile Drummond Island, Mich. ice oval, Joel Diamond tapped his Apex’s huge power to win Saturday’s 30-lap Pro Stock Enduro flag to flag. He followed that up with a wire-to-wire win in the Top 10 Shootout in the late afternoon. A close second in Pro Stock Sprint and a third in Pro Open capped a great day. Then in the big Drummond Island 400 on Sunday, Diamond started on the pole and jumped to an early lead before suspension trouble forced him into the pits. After repairs, co-driver Bill Wilkes rejoined the race and drove hard and fast, helping Diamond move all the way into seventh by the checkered flag. After racing five weekends on his Apex, Diamond is rapidly gaining appreciation for it. “That engine is really strong,” he said. “It’s got a lot of horsepower.”
