Yamaha rider Chad Reed made yet another podium appearance with third place in Saturday’s thrilling AMA Supercross round at Detroit’s Ford Field. Once again the event provided a thrilling battle between the championship’s three title contenders. James Stewart (Kawasaki) led the 20-lap final from gate to flag, but behind him the Yamaha rider was involved in a thrilling battle with defending champion Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki). The Australian, riding a YZ450F for the official Yamaha squad, pulled out a two second lead after making a block pass on Carmichael in the opening stages. The two continued to battle, allowing Stewart to make his break, with Carmichael ultimately passing Reed for second. The result sees Reed retain his second place in the standings, 10 points behind Carmichael and 10 clear of third placed Stewart. Reed’s team-mate Heath Voss also qualified for the final, finishing 14th.
