L&M Racing’s Chad Reed finished third in round two of the 2007 World Supercross GP Series in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday night, Dec. 9. The solid result on a particularly rocky and demanding track puts the YZ450F rider second in the World Supercross Championship as teams begin a four-week layoff before the AMA Supercross season starts in Anaheim, Calif. on Jan. 6. Reed began the evening perfectly by winning his heat race, and picked a central starting position that had launched riders well all day long. But when the gate dropped the magic simply wasn’t there, and Reed reached the first turn in seventh as James Stewart grabbed the lead. Reed quickly advanced to third behind Stewart and Ricky Carmichael, but by then the two leaders had opened up a gap. Although all three riders posted similar best lap times, the hardscrabble Canadian track – and a dastardly step-on/step-off combination – prevented Reed from gaining on his rivals. Rather than risking a serious get-off, he wisely put his YZ on cruise control as Carmichael eventually outfoxed Stewart for the win. Reed’s L&M Racing teammate Nathan Ramsey finished a strong sixth after battling his way forward from a mid-pack start. “I was on top of the world last week and came away a winner, and this week I was third on the podium,” said the 2004 AMA Supercross champion after the race. “I just wanted to see where I was and this Canadian trip was a good benchmark.” Count on both Reed and Ramsey to be on their game when the AMA season kickstarts in Anaheim. Good luck guys!
