Cecco, Ballance on Top in GNCC ATV Series

Defending GNCC ATV champions Traci Cecco and Bill Ballance each grabbed wins in their respective Women’s and XC1 Pro classes at the seventh round of the 2007 season in Sparta, Ken. on Saturday, June 9. Cecco’s seventh consecutive victory – a new GNCC record – extends her points lead over Angel Atwell, while Ballance’s third win of the year moves him into a narrow two-point championship lead over Chris Borich, who finished off the podium. Both Cecco and Ballance were aboard YFZ450s. In the morning race, Cecco built up a modest lead over Angel Atwell on the first of five laps, and when Atwell faltered on lap two she increased the advantage to nearly two minutes over Jennifer Albright. Though Atwell fought back to second place on lap three, she could never close the gap to less than a minute and Cecco cruised her YFZ home for another sweet win. Even better, she also claimed the overall victory ahead of 300 other riders once again. Winning proved harder for Ballance in the afternoon XC1 Pro class, which covered four laps of a much longer course. In fact Ballance led only one lap – the one that counted. After a rocky start he found himself over a minute behind a flying Adam McGill at the halfway point. But then Ballance hit his stride, taking chunks of time out of McGill’s lead and surging ahead on the final lap. The contest came right down to the wire, with Ballance prevailing by just two seconds after nearly two hours of racing.
