2005 news Thursday October 13th 2005 The Fall Classic at Mesa Marin Speedway 120 lap Super Late Model Race. This was the last October Classic ever at Mesa Marin, so we wanted to be sure we were there. We never raced there before, but we found out why the track was such a popular short track. A lot tighter in the corners, high banks and longer straights meant we needed an all new set up. We went testing the Monday before and had a fast race car running within .15 of the track record. Qualifying went well with the car solidly in 10th place for the feature. Then our night started to unravel. During pre- Race roll out, Scott's Radio began to fail and by 5 laps in, he had lost all communication with our spotter. A pit stop to replace the radio cost us 2 laps and that was that. We were able to run with the leaders in case of an opportunity to get a lap back, but no such luck. It was nice to know we could put a good race car on a new track we had never been to, and it was really cool to be at the last fall classic ever. Saturday Sept 17th 2005 Round 16of the NASCAR weekly racing series saw another 75 lap feature race! We fought a loose racecar all day (and Night) and just couldn't get it to hook up. Managed to qualify 9th and finish 7th to clinch 6th place in the season long Championship series. Overall we had a great season which included a couple of Hard Charger awards, several top 5's and a couple of Podium finishes. Thanks go out to everyone who helped out this year. THANK YOU! Saturday Sept 10th 2005 Round 15 of the NASCAR weekly racing series saw a 75 lap feature race! Fate? Luck? All important factors in any race. We took our newly front clipped Ford Taurus (fresh from Voigt Race Cars) and qualified it 10th. This was not, however, indicative of how fast the car really was. After the start, it was made clear, we had one of the fastest cars on the track. We immediately set our sights on the front as we passed car after car. After passing the #24 car on lap 50 for 3rd place we set our sights on the leader. 4 laps later the 24 car decided to try to use our car to keep his car on the bottom of the track (something he couldn't do all night) and turned us both around coming out of turn 2. The Irwindale rule book says "if you are involved in an incident that brings out a yellow flag, whether or not it's your fault, all cars involved go to the back". So along with the 24 car, we were sent all the way to the back for the restart. To show how fast our car was, with only 15 laps remaining, we were able to pass a field full of good cars and finish 12th. Saturday August 13th 2005 Round 14 of the NASCAR weekly racing series saw another twin 50 (2- 50 lap races) Boy, I don't know where to begin. We pulled the car out of the trailer, everything was working fine. During our practice hour the throttle stuck wide open down the back stretch into turn 3 and Scotty went nose first into the wall at about 120 miles per hour, totaling the car. Fortunately, Greg Voigt builds some of the best super lates out there and Scotty only received bumps and bruises. When we got the car back to the pits, Frank Loverock, Greg Lobosky, Dave&Dave from DCM and many others came to our aid offering parts, and support trying to get our car ready for the race, but the car was too far gone and we thought we were done for the day. About 4:30, Kevin Oneill came to our pits, saw our damage and asked what he could do for us. When Kevin's dad Bernie showed up there wasn't even a pause, he told Kevin to take us down to his race shop and get their car. They knew we are in the middle of the points chase and wanted to help. We got back to the track about 6:30pm with Kevin's car, changed the tires, changed the oil, went through the scales and ran the race...no setup or practice time. Scott did an outstanding job finishing 15th (from dead last) in both races and we stayed out the wrecks. Bernie and Kevin: Our team thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. You guys are a real class act! To all of you who also offered help and support- many thanks! It's GREAT to have friends!! Saturday July 30th 2005
Round 13 of the NASCAR weekly racing series
saw another twin 50 (2- 50 lap races) After a bad qualifying run (17th for the
first race, 10th for the second) we were able to climb up to 10th in the first
race after getting stuck behind a seemingly never ending supply of slower cars.
Much better results in the second 50 after starting tenth, we were able to race
to another podium 3rd place finish! No mechanical problems this week (knock,
knock!!) but we did put a new motor in for this weekend, We wanted to be sure
our broken Rocker Arm last race didn't cause any hidden problems. Saturday July 9th 2005 Round 12 of the NASCAR weekly racing series saw another twin 50 (2- 50 lap races). After qualifying in the top 10 for both races, outside the first row for the second race, we unfortunately broke an intake rocker arm 22 laps into in the first race. Not wanting to give up the outside first row starting position for the second race, we patched it together and despite only running on 7 cylinders, still managed to pull off a 7th place finish! |
