May 2008 Recap

For our May chapter ride we wanted to support the Ventura Chapter 258 IronAzz. Like Gary has been saying lately, Ventura Chapter 258 comes to every one of our events, their support and generosity is and always will be greatly appreciated. The IronAzz is supposed to be a 500 mile ride. They had routes set up for everyone that wanted to go. They even had several starting points, so no matter where you live you were able to pick a starting point and use the routes they mapped out, so you were set.

We had a quick parking lot meeting and got on the road quickly. It seems like the temperature started to rise as fast as we were riding. I think we had the largest group there.

Chapter 258 really did a nice job, they had music, a lot of food and most importantly a large turn out. Here’s what Bob Hamilton had to say about the event and Ken King: “Just a note to thank everyone who participated in last weekends SoCal IronAzz for Feed The Children, and to share with everyone some of the stats from the event. This year was warmer than last, and the turn out was hot also.  We had 150 registered riders & passengers and served approx. 175 meals.  I thought the food was great and from what I've heard so far, most everyone else thought so too.

Our 50/50 for Star Family Foundation collected a total of $600.  Ken King, with Chapter 109, won his half of that, and generously donated it back to the cause.  So the entire $600 was sent back to National, with Ron & Debi Greene, for the Foundation.

Last year, in our first effort, about $4,500 was sent to Feed The Children from this event.  This years event has raised and sent over $12,000!!!  Between this year and last, Chapter 258 has raised enough for a FTC truck to come to Ventura and Chapters 422 & 237 are on their way to one, with the most of the other participating chapters contributing to their accounts as well.  We will have exact amounts for the event and chapter credits posted on the web site soon.  In the future, I'd love to see 6 or 7 of these trucks coming into California every year from this event.

Thanks again to all of you who contributed to this years success and we hope next year will be even better with more chapters choosing to participate and an increased effort by all to benefit your chapters and Feed The Children. And, by the way, there will be more info issued regarding the Chapter 258 FTC food drop when it is available; hope to see you there.”

Nice job Ken King and I would like to mention Vincent Turner raised $500.00 on his own to donate. Ken and Vincent: your fellow 109’rs are very proud.

See you guys at the Reagan Library.
